About AAPMD

At the core of the AAPMD (founded in 2012) is the conviction that optimal airway health is pivotal and achievable through collaboration. My vision for the AAPMD is to foster collaboration and unite all healthcare practitioners around a common goal of revolutionizing the health landscape for future generations. I see a world where interdisciplinary care and bridging the often-overlooked gap between dentistry and medicine lead to more collaboration between providers and better patient outcomes.

AAPMD Creed

The American Academy of Physiological Medicine & Dentistry (AAPMD) is an inclusive organization for health care practitioners and health care consumers to share information and work together for the wellness of individuals, families and society.
Practitioners will share knowledge and cutting edge information and work together to offer a team approach to patients. Health care consumers will benefit from having a database of practitioners focused on wellness, prevention and early intervention. Together practitioners and consumers will carry the message to improve health and wellness of our children, youth and adults.

In order to achieve this lofty goal and be an inclusive organization, members of the AAPMD understand that their practice parameters are part of a global picture of health. Everyone’s opinion can be freely expressed.

Thus AAPMD will attract, educate and train practitioners to diagnose and intervene with care early rather than delay treatment. AAPMD founding practitioners have learned from the pioneers who became aware of the dental / medical connection decades ago. Their message was largely overlooked for many years because it was unable to be articulated in a language that could be understood by conventional medicine and dentistry.

Today areas of sleep, chronic pain, issues of growth and development and athletic and intellectual performance require the diagnostic and clinical knowledge of many disciplines, The AAPMD’s initial efforts have attracted general dentists, pediatric dentists and orthodontists, physicians (sleep specialists, ENT, pulmonologists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, pediatricians, integrated medicine specialists) as well as nutritionists, physical therapists, oromyologists, and hygienists. AAPMD membership is open to health care consumer members; patients, parents and educators who will benefit from AAPMD educational materials, courses and a team based referral network.
The AAPMD believes that all interventions should pass scientific scrutiny. Modern radiographic and physiological monitoring instrumentation as well as other laboratory tests will serve as a common language for treating practitioners.
As an AAPMD member your opinion will be respected and you will be asked to respect opinions of others. The AAPMD acknowledges that no one discipline has all the answers. Practitioners working together will improve the chances of success for both the patient and the practitioner.
