Interdisciplinary Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Utilizing Nonsurgical Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgeries in Management of Obesity

March 20 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm PDT

The most favorable care for patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is treatment provided by an interdisciplinary team that includes members from the appropriate dental and medical disciplines.

Weight loss and bariatric metabolic surgery, usually used for treating severe obesity, have also been documented as effective treatments for OSA in patients with morbid obesity. A significant number of patients with obesity who have OSA and undergo intensive pharmaceutical and lifestyle interventions or weight loss surgery achieve some degree of remission. This interdisciplinary presentation provides information to recognize these treatment options, including a case report.

Learning Objectives:

• Principles of nonsurgical weight loss and their role in the treatment of obesity.

• Principals of bariatric surgeries and their role in the treatment of obesity and OSA.

• Different types of bariatric surgical procedures and their indication for weight loss.
