This webinar will discuss the anatomy and important functions of the different layers of fascia in the human body. structural tensegrity, neuro feedback, link to the dura and the craniosacral system. We will look at what can cause loss of mobility in the fascial system, and how that can impact the suck, swallow, breathe mechanism. Additionally, we will discuss some techniques to help restore the fascial glide.

Learning Objectives:

1. To understand the anatomy and function of the fascial system in the human body and how it connects and impacts the dural system.
2. To recognize how we lose mobility in our fascial system and how this impacts posture, craniosacral mobility and tongue function.
3. Be able to assess if loss of fascial mobility is possibly impairing your patient’s function.  And who you may need on your patient care team.

Valerie Sinkus, PT graduated from the University of Southern California Physical Therapy School in 1975. In these 47 years as a PT, her focus has been on the restoration of function and improvement in quality of life for her patients.

This journey has included extensive training in many manual therapy techniques and exercise approaches with a neuroscience basis. She has been a practicing craniosacral therapist for 27 years, with specialized training in pediatrics and obstetrics.  And she is an advanced practitioner in Stecco Fascial Manipulation techniques, Myofunctional therapy, and many forms of breathing restoration and cranial nerve integration techniques.

In the 1990’s she served as the physical therapy consultant for the White Memorial TMJ program. She also served  nine years on the Physical Therapy Board of California, has been a clinical instructor for PT students, and has worked and traveled with Olympic track and field athletes to World competitions, including several Summer Olympics.

After 30 years as the owner/director of Professional Physical Therapy Associates, she sold her private practice in 2013.  She is now focusing on applying her 47 years of acquired skills in treating patients with airway and oral Myofunctional issues, using her multidisciplinary approach of various manual therapies and exercise. Additionally, she teaches other practitioners about the benefits of Stecco Fascial Manipulation integrated with craniosacral therapy for restoration of function
