This Allied Health Course provides the participant an overview of orofacial myofunctional disorders including history, anatomy & physiology, etiologies, signs & symptoms and how to build an interdisciplinary team for comprehensive treatment. This course is not eligible for Active Membership or Certification into the IAOM; however, by completing this course you would be eligible to join as an Honorary IAOM Member.
This course reviews the history of orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs), anatomy and physiology related to oral structures and functions, orofacial development, swallow patterning, and oral rest posture. Introduction to the etiological factors, identification process, and systemic change guided by treatment programs for OMDs is provided. The course will also targeted specific strategies for building an integrated allied health team for comprehensive treatment of OMDs with supporting literature and current research.
