Knee Jerk vs. Cook Book: Which works best for reversing E.R.R.S.™?…hint…NEITHER!

Millions of patients worldwide suffer from and seek treatment for E.R.R.S.™ (Extraction Retraction Regret Syndrome).   E.R.R.S.™ is defined as a constellation of Esthetic, Functional, and Emotional signs and symptoms occurring after orthodontic retraction all of which are preventable.   Not every patient who is retracted will suffer, but many from all over the world do suffer and identify as “a poster child for E.R.R.S.™”.

The knee jerk reaction of many in the orthodontic profession to such patients is that spaces cannot be re-opened and surgery is the only answer.   The not infrequent cook book response is Invisalign or some other appliance du jour.  That fact is that neither of these approaches is likely to work and thinking is required!

This presentation will feature 4 different patients who have undergone the exact same retractive treatment but were treated with four distinctly different treatment approaches to achieve the esthetic, functional, and emotional results they sought.

Dr. William M. Hang graduated from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry and the University of Minnesota Orthodontic program where he briefly taught orthodontics. He was active in the specialty of orthodontics for 50 years.

Having been traditionally trained, he extracted teeth for crowding and often retracted the teeth.   For the last 40+ years, however,  he has  been a pioneer in non-retractive treatments to improve the airway in patients of all ages. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy of Physiological Medicine and Dentistry for his work.

Dr. Hang founded OrthO2Health™ to teach and mentor doctors about airway healthy orthodontic treatments for all ages.
