Orthotropics®, a technique pioneered by Dr. John Mew, is based on the philosophy that ideal development of the face and jaws is dependent on proper rest oral posture (tongue to the roof of the mouth, teeth lightly together, and lips together breathing through the nose). Orthotropics® seeks to place the teeth and jaws in more ideal positions in the face and encourages proper rest oral posture so future growth will be in a more favorable direction. Arch development and protraction of the maxilla are also discussed to give the doctor a range of tools to maximize the airway for children from ages 3 to 10.
