Snoring and Sleep Difficulties in Children – Not Always OSA
Jim Papadopoulos, MBBS, Dip. Paed. FRACP
June 13, 2022 @ 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm EDT
Learning objectives
- Understand the health burden of snoring and sleep difficulties in children
- Understand the symptoms, signs and tests which help us evaluate snoring and sleep difficulties in children
- Understand the importance of a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of snoring and sleep difficulties in children
Disordered sleep affects 30% of children, harming mood, behaviour and cognition – potentially irreversibly. Snoring is associated with adverse dentofacial outcomes but does not automatically mean Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). In fact around 10% of children snore but only 1/3 have OSA. What about the other 2/3? Implications for real-world practice?
